Pet-friendly Apartment Living

Moving into an apartment can be a stressful experience – not just for you, but for your pet as well. Here are a few tips to help make your cuddly critters feel at home in your new apartment rental.

Check the Rules First

Before you move into your apartment with your pet, always check with your landlord and your city department first to see if there are any rules and regulations you have to follow. Some cities and municipalities have specific by-laws that may require you to leash your pet at all times or limit the number of animals you can have in one residence.

In addition, some landlords have their own “in-house” rules regarding pets (such as liability for damages done to the property by animals or rules concerning the health and cleanliness of your pets), while some still don’t allow pets in their apartments at all. Any rules about pets and apartments should be clearly outlined on your lease.

Choose the Right Pet for Your Apartment

Cats, small dogs and birds are well suited to apartment living. However, before adding a pet to your apartment, it is important to consider whether or not doing so is right for you. Especially for those used to living with animals in a larger house, some people may find that living with a pet in an apartment – especially smaller one-bedroom apartments – to be rather undesirable in the long run.

Caring for Your Cat

Most apartment cats become “indoor cats” by necessity. However, that doesn’t mean they’re still not interested in the outside world. An easy-to-install perch or ledge attached to the windowsill will give your cat a nice view of the world beyond your apartment. Also, remember that your cat needs plenty of exercise, and in a smaller living space, that means you’ll need more toys and climbing structures to allow the cat to act on its natural behaviours like stalking, pouncing, playing and scratching.

Devoted to Your Dog

One of the most important issues for caring for a dog is adequate exercise. Unfortunately, this can become quite difficult while living in an apartment. Without a big backyard to play in, apartment renters have to be sure to take time out of their day to take their dog for regular walks. As a general rule, any dog should be given at least two walks per day and a selection of safe toys to keep them physically and mentally stimulated while you’re away from the apartment.

Apartment Risks for Pets

Apartment buildings provide unique risks for pets and their owners. Perhaps the single biggest risk of living in an apartment for rent with pets is the chance that your furry friend will fall from the balcony or jump through a window. If you decide to bring your pet onto the balcony, make sure that your pet is secured with a harness and leash and remember to never leave your pet unattended. However, many owners prefer not to take their pets outside on the balcony at all – this option is perhaps the best approach for accident prevention.

Talk to your veterinarian about living with your pet in a high-rise apartment. He or she will help you to better understand the issues involved.

Dallas Apartments for Rent

Author: admin  //  Category: apartment rental

You have just gotten a new raise and have found out that part of the deal is having to move to Dallas, Texas. A new move can be an overwhelming experience, especially when realizing that you have to not only start a new job, but find a new place to live as well.

Luckily Dallas is an amazing place with a very large choice of apartments for rent. Texas also has a great quality of living and is rated as the fourth state in the country for being affordable. This could be a great comfort, especially if you are moving from a city with a much higher cost of living such as New York or Boston.

Before you move it is important to start thinking ahead of time what you would like to have in an apartment. What necessities can you absolutely not live without, and what things would you like but don’t necessarily need to have to survive?

Start by making a list of things such as how many bedrooms you would like to have, how many bathrooms, what you would like your new Dallas apartment rental to be located next to such as parks, attractions, schools, place of work, etc. You should even make a list of what you would like as far as amenities in your new Dallas apartment rental such as a fitness room, amount of natural light, or club house.

Don’t forget the family pet as well. There are plenty of Dallas apartments for rent that do allow pets. Just remember that many apartments will restrict either size or will not allow specific breeds that have a history of violent temperaments such as bulldogs or rottweilers.

Once you have made a list of all the qualities that you need in your new living space, it’s time to go online and do some research on available Dallas rentals. Look at as many properties as you can and write down not just apartments but areas that look interesting to you. Keep price in the back of your head but do not rule out an area based on price alone. The price level of a rental will usually tell you something about the area it is located in and so you will want to look for rentals within good areas that pull a high price range.

Once you have put together a sizeable list of Dallas apartment rental possibilities it is time to actually go to those neighborhoods and check out the area itself. Look at the rentals that you have specifically written down as well as any rentals within the area that were not advertised but yet catch your eye while you are looking around. Quite often you can find a much cheaper unadvertised rental in the area of a more expensive rental that you can’t afford. This allows you to have the area you desire without spending a fortune.

The best thing to do is to have patience. Keep your eye out for rental signs and check out as many rentals as you possibly have time for. The more Dallas apartments for rent that you look at, the better idea you will have of what is available as well as what is a good deal. If you do this you will find a great new home for you and your family, and in no time you will be enjoying your new life in beautiful Dallas, Texas.

How to Clean an Apartment Checklist

Author: admin  //  Category: cheap apartments

If you’ve ever wanted to know how to clean an apartment, this list will walk you through the process step by step.

Dust

Dust is inevitable. It comes in through doors through windows, on the bottom of shoes and clothing. Dusting weekly will reduce the need for more serious deep cleanings. Use the right tools, a vacuum cleaner with a long attachment and microfiber cloths will remove the dust from your apartment not just spread it around. Dust the obvious and not so obvious.

Table surfaces
Chairs
Televisions
Windowsills
Wallpaper
Ceiling fans
Corner cobwebs

Floors

Floors can collect more than dirt, pick up anything that shouldn’t be on the floor and put it in its correct place or room.

Vacuum carpets and rugs
Mop or wash tile or wood floors (do the kitchen separately)

Trash

When you live in a small space, learning how to clean an apartment and keep it clean becomes doubly important; take out the trash as often as possible, daily if you can.

Throw away any piles of papers or junk mail
Take out kitchen and bathroom trash
Replace bags on all waste baskets (its a good idea to leave a few extra bags at the bottom for next time)

Kitchen

The kitchen is probably the toughest room in the apartment to get and keep clean. Do the work upfront and then try to maintain as you go. This will keep you from getting overwhelmed.

Wash the dishes daily (collect any dishes in other rooms)
Clean out the refrigerator (thrown away any expired item and old leftovers, wipe clean any spill remnants inside, wipe down the outside and the handle)
Clean/scrub countertops
Shake out crumbs in toaster
Wipe down appliances (including microwave inside and out)
Clean/scrub stovetop
Clean any obvious spots on the walls
Sweep up floor for crumbs and debris
Mop or wash floor
Scrub sink

Bathroom

The bathroom should be cleaned on a weekly basis. Any longer than that, and it can turn into a disgusting job.

Use mildew remover on shower and bath
Disinfect the toilet
Scrub the sink
Mop the floor

Bedroom

The biggest mess maker in the bedroom is probably dirty laundry. Make sure you have a big enough hamper so have a place to put your dirty clothes until laundry day.

Change the linens (weekly)
Make the bed (daily)
Keep trash and dishes out of the bedroom
Neatly stack any magazines or reading materials
Air out the room (open the windows)

Now that you know how to clean an apartment, you need to ask yourself if you have the right systems set in place to help you keep that apartment looking clean and uncluttered. Sometimes what your apartment needs is not so much a cleaning, but a decluttering.

Do you have stuff in your house that you don’t use, but you can’t seem to let go? Does your apartment feel smaller than when you first moved in? Are you stressed out or embarrassed to have people over? It’s probably time to declutter not clean.
